Kammerzell Reaches 1,000 Career Kills as CJI Volleyball Sweeps Homecoming Slate

The CJI Lady Hawks turned homecoming night into a celebration on Thursday, with senior Brynn Kammerzell recording her 1,000th career kill as the varsity swept Power/Dutton-Brady 25-12, 25-10, 25-13 in Chester. The win moves CJI to 4-0 on the season, and the Lady Hawks still have not dropped a set in regular match play.

Kammerzell was honored after the match with a custom-made volleyball and a banner signed by her teammates in recognition of the milestone. The 6-foot-3 senior has been an all-state selection every season since her freshman year. Entering this season, 406 MT Sports named Kammerzell one of 12 Montana high school volleyball players to watch statewide, pointing to her role in helping CJI reach the Class C state tournament three times in recent years.

It was a full sweep of the evening for the CJI volleyball program. The JV squad also took care of business in straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-14, 15-7. The Jr. High B team made quick work of its match as well, winning 25-18, 25-12. Jr. High A had to work a little harder, dropping the first set 21-25 before rallying to close it out 25-22, 15-8.

CJI's stat sheet from its first three matches of the season, which does not include Thursday's win over PDB, shows a team built on balance. Kammerzell entered the PDB match with 32 kills, 5 blocks, 12 digs, and 4 aces on the young season, sitting at 994 career kills before crossing the 1,000 mark on homecoming night. Sophomore Audrey Young has been a force at the net with 19 kills, 9 blocks, and 3 aces. Junior Scarlet Sundgren has been all over the stat sheet with 8 kills, 28 digs, 6 aces, and 3 blocks, and setter Piper Erickson has kept the offense running with 74 assists to go with 3 aces, 4 digs, and a block.

Sophomore Brooke Streit has been a force through the entire rotation, with front line presence, excellent defense and passing, and a powerhouse serve that has fueled several Hawks rallies. Sophomore Timber Hull has chipped in 7 kills, 10 digs, 2 aces, and a block, while the libero duo of Mercedes Riggin and Kyra Anderson has anchored the back row, combining for 21 digs and 4 aces between them. Junior Parker Kantorowicz added 3 kills and 2 digs, and sophomore Kingslee Horel has been steady from the service line with 3 aces.

The Hawks stay busy in the week ahead, hosting North Star on Tuesday, Sept. 22, before hitting the road for a rematch at Power/Dutton-Brady on Thursday, Sept. 24, and a trip to Heart Butte on Friday, Sept. 25.
